Here at Language Leap UK we understand how important your work experience is to you. We will always try to match you with the Work experience of your choice.

We offer many different kinds of work experience and these can be from 1 week to 3 months. We recommend a minimum of 4 weeks as this is where you begin to get the most benefit. The 1-3 week programme is good if you just want to try something to see if it’s what you really want.

Secretarial and Hotel

We offer work experience in hotel and reception duties in various hotels in Plymouth.  You will be getting experience on reception, which will include practicing your English on the telephone. You may also be helping with waitress service so this will involve your conversation skills. We also offer placements at Language Leap UK in Secretarial positions. You will answer the telephone, type letters and general office work. This covers many skills and is useful if you want to work for a large business.

Artistic

You may be of an artistic nature so would like to improve your skills in the art world. To help you accomplish this we can offer you work experience within some beautiful Art Gallery establishments on the Barbican. They will teach you about the different paintings they sell and the many artists who are popular at this time. You will also be involved in selling the paintings. Some of the Galleries do their own framing so you will have a good overall experience if this is your chosen work experience.

We are also able to offer placements at the ClayArt studio. This is the Paint Your Own Pottery Studio on Plymouth's Barbican; a fun place where you people go to paint their own designs onto blank ceramics, which they glaze and fire for you. Here you will be taught to glaze and fire the pottery and the different painting techniques. You will also interact with customers. This is a very popular work experience so book it early.

Tourism

We offer placements in tourism. You will spend the first few days learning as much as you can about Plymouth. You will then spend your remaining work experience as a Tour Guide. You will escort small groups of foreign students around the touristic places in Plymouth. You will describe the history and culture of the area. This is a challenging work placement and gives you excellent practice with English. This placement is the favourite of our placements so book very early to avoid disappointment.

Beautician

We offer placements within many beauty salons in Plymouth. This work experience includes tanning salons, nail extensions, hairdressing and beauty treatments. You will receive some experience of working in a busy establishment. You will have an introduction to the therapy and treatments on offer. You will have practice in dealing with customers.

Community work

We offer work experience within the community with a charity who deal with mental health issues. The groups they deal with are adults and teenagers. The charity help the people cope with their depression, stress, mental health issues etc. This can be achieved through counselling, workshops and just having someone to talk too. These work experience positions can be challenging but also very rewarding.

ICT

This work experience workshop would be within Language Leap UK or another computer based company. You will be working with staff very experienced in IT. This is a very popular placement so early booking is advised.

Teacher training

You will enjoy the hands on experience of this work placement. You will be acting as assistant to the teacher you are appointed to. You will be working in a real teaching environment within Language Leap UK. You will pick up many skills while doing this placement and you will also have the opportunity to take part in a class of another foreign language. This lets you understand how the students feel when they first decide to study another language.
